Hi and welcome to my Motion Graphics Blog. I’m a second year student at Kingston University studying Media & Cultural Studies and Journalism. The aim within this motion graphics module was to create three individual projects using Adobe After Effects.

Crunchy numbers

A Boeing 747-400 passenger jet can hold 416 passengers. This blog was viewed about 3,100 times in 2010. That’s about 7 full 747s.

In 2010, there were 10 new posts, growing the total archive of this blog to 45 posts. There were 51 pictures uploaded, taking up a total of 4mb. That’s about 4 pictures per month.

The busiest day of the year was January 22nd with 75 views. The most popular post that day was A. About.

Where did they come from?

The top referring sites in 2010 were vimeo.com, en.search.wordpress.com, twitter.com, en.wordpress.com, and deems.wordpress.com.

Some visitors came searching, mostly for smoking, smoking kills, motion graphics, bbc3 logo, and cigarette.

1. Increased the opacity

My final image of my title sequence- there are two layers of the forward sign and it overlaps with the letter “h” on the word “flash”. I also applied exposure to the corner of the eye, to emphasise the idea of a flash.

Below are three examples of how I changed the opacity, towards the end of the title sequence.

For example, for my FlashForward logo, where I use the forward buttons- some people did not recognise that it was the forward symbol. So, taking this into account, I enlarged the sign and made it white to contrast against the background, and also created a motion effect; where the sign rapidly speeds across the eye, and towards the end of the word ‘flash’.

I’ve put a lot of thought into how I want to design the FlashForward title. I decided that I wanted to put in the ‘forward sign’ instead of actually spelling it out. Above is an example of my design, which I created using GIMP- a photo editing software.

Below are some images of The FlashForward drama:

I am going to take the name FlashForward and part of the concept, however, I am turning this from a drama format to a film. Secondly, I want this film to be more of a hybrid between thriller, sci-fi and mystery. Therefore, the feel and look of my opening title sequence will be very different from the current FlashForward drama.

I really like how the eye has been manipulated on this image.

This image is actually taken from a film. I think that it is visually stimulating and intriguing, and with further editing- I could manipulate it to relate to the FlashForward theme.
